Meet Our Founder​ 

 

"Hello all! No formal introductions here! I am Jantina Masters, the visionary and founder of Young Musician Academy. This is the birth of a dream I had in high school made a reality. I dedicate this vision to the glory of God, and commemorate my late mother, Katirena Virgil with it's success. My mother invested in the best piano teachers and summer arts camps throughout my schooling. At Fisk University, I continued to train and learn from the best professors! I honor the late Dr. Paul Kwami and

Dr. Philip Autry, who both poured generously into me, teaching me piano, voice and composition. I also honor Professor Valija M. Bumbulis, who instructed me in voice, and pushed me passed my own limitations. I thank God for my father, Dr. B.J. Virgil, who believed a little girl could lead a choir, and play for an entire service when she didn't think she was skilled enough.

There are many others I can name in this space who contributed to my growth and development as a musician. I am thankful for every influence God allowed in my life to lead me to His plans and purpose as a music educator.

 

Today, my greatest devotion is to God, my husband, Shawn Masters, and all eight of my children!  My husband and I continue this mission, as well as write, and record Christian music. Our greatest joy is sharing the Gospel message of Jesus Christ to others! If you haven't guessed it, Young Musician Academy is ministry to me!
